When planning our honeymoon we thought of so many places but kept coming back to Playa Del Carmen. It was a shorter, direct flight, and there were so many options of things to do, places to stay, and a good mix of adventure and relaxation. Here are some of the highlights that we were able to find.
HOTELS
For travelers on a budget I am a big fan of all inclusive resorts. The nice thing about so many Mexico destinations is that there is no shortage of all inclusive resorts. We had the opportunity to stay at the beautiful Hilton Playa Del Carmen. It is an adult only all inclusive resort in the heart of downtown Playa Del Carmen. I was a bit worried it would be loud due to its location, but the way it is situated makes it so you can access the town but still feel secluded.
When we arrived they had a banner on our door for our honeymoon, and the room was amazing. It had a huge jacuzzi tub, a balcony with a hammock, and a very comfortable king size bed. The resort itself has 7 restaurants, 5 bars and lounges, pools, beach access, poolside entertainment, and activities. We are looking forward to making this a regular spot to go back to. ACTIVITIES
While we spent a lot of time at the hotel, we were able to adventure out a couple of times and the activities we got to do were amazing.
The first thing we did was Extreme Adventures Cancun. We did a zipline, ATV, and cenote adventure that also included a tequila tasting class. It was amazing. They pick you up at your hotel and you to the park so you do not have to worry about transportation. You get to the park and there are dancers, and the energy gets you excited. You then break into groups and take turns rotating through the different activities. The Cenote was beautiful and so much fun, even when it started raining they kept us having a good time. The Zip Lining was fun, and in my opinion it was great for beginners who have never done it before. It is not too high or fast, but still enough to get your adrenaline going. The ATVs were awesome and you got so muddy which made it even more of an adventure. Wear clothes that you are ok with getting dirty because a year later and our clothes are still stained from the ATVs. The next thing we did was a snorkel trip to Cozumel. I was heartbroken because the tour that we had originally booked cancelled the day of with no notice so we made last minute changes and went over on a different tour. Since it is not one I would recommend I will not put the name out there, but I will say that when you go over there you should do research on reviews and other travelers pictures. While the tour we did is not one I would do again, I would go back to Cozumel in a minute. The water was so clear, we were able to see rays, starfish, and so much more. The ferry was simple and a short walk from the hotel. I would not recommend to anyone that may be sea sick as it is not a smooth ride over. I wish we had more time on the island, but we can't wait to go back.
The trip was such a success even though we did not get through everything we wanted to. We now have a reason to get back to the area. If we had more time I would have loved to go down to Tulum, see the Mayan Ruins, gone on a cenote tour that was just cenote hopping, and I would have done another tequila tasting.
Overall I would suggest the area to couples or friend groups. We felt save the whole time on and off the resort property. The transfer from the hotel to airport was a bit long but simple. For going in November the weather was gorgeous with a few scattered showers. It is a great vacation destination for the relaxer and the adventurer in the group!
